Getting around
How you move decides what you see
Old Town is four miles by two. Everything you're here for is inside it — and the right set of wheels changes how much of it you actually get to.
Getting here
Three ways onto the island
Key West sits at the end of a 113-mile chain of islands. You either fly in, drive the Overseas Highway, or come by sea.
Fly
Key West International is ten minutes from Duval — small, quick, and served by regional carriers from Miami, Atlanta and Charlotte. There's also a seaplane base in the harbour.
Drive the Overseas Highway
US-1 runs from Miami in about three and a half hours over 42 bridges, including the Seven Mile Bridge. The drive is half the holiday — stop at Bahia Honda.
Ferry
The Key West Express runs from Fort Myers Beach in around three and a half hours. No traffic, no airport, and you arrive straight onto the waterfront.
What to book
Once you're here
Old Town is flat, walkable and easy on a bike. For anything beyond it — beaches, the far side of the island, a run up the Keys — you'll want something with a motor.

Golf Carts
The Key West default. 4, 6 and 8-passenger carts delivered to you — park anywhere, roof up when it rains.

Jeeps
For going further — up the Overseas Highway to the beaches and quiet keys most visitors never reach.

Bikes & Scooters
The cheapest way to cover Old Town. Flat streets, bike lanes, and a rack outside nearly every bar.
Before you arrive
The things nobody tells you
Key West driving is its own thing. A few rules and quirks worth knowing before you pick up keys to anything.
Parking is the real constraint
Old Town parking is scarce and enforced strictly — residents' permits don't apply to you. Most rentals let you park at the accommodation or a lot. Ask before you book.
Duval is best on foot
The island's main street is a mile and a half. Walking it beats finding a space, and the side streets are where the good stuff is anyway.
Chickens have right of way
Genuinely. They're protected, they're everywhere, and hitting one is a problem you don't want. Drive slowly, especially on side streets.

We don't run a rental desk. Tell us your dates and where you're staying, and we'll have a cart or a Jeep waiting when you arrive — brought to you by the operator, not collected from a lot on the far side of the island.
